Deze appellatie omvat circa 2000 hectare en omsluit 22 gemeentes op de linker oever van de Rhône, van La Baume-de-Transit in het zuiden , via St-Paul-Trois-Châteaux, tot Granges-Contardes in het noorden. De bodemstructuur is rijk aan alluviaal gesteente en zanderige bovenlagen. Het klimaat is voornamelijk mediterraan.
